What has kept the site chugging along over the years, Phillips said, is the site’s reputation and the high level of satisfaction reported by its users, both jobseekers and employers. “Because we enjoy very strong branding, the majority of our clients come via word-of-mouth, organic searches, news articles, website links and referrals,” Phillips said. “We do some focused advertising with Google and a few other outlets. CJ: How did you make the transition from teaching into porn? Did you start contacting agents? Nina: I had just turned 21 and it was something that I had been wanting to do for years. I didn’t know how to go about it but I thought I’m not getting any younger. I was talking to one of my friends about it and she also wanted to pursue porn. She want on SexyJobs.com. She did one scene and then quit. I looked at the same website and that’s how my agent found me and that’s how I got started.

"Porn has become such a mainstream industry that it's less of a problem if your peers know you're in it. They think it's cool now," Phillips said. The adult webcam industry currently tops $1 billion – and is growing fast, said Sean Phillips, vice president of marketing for SexyJobs.com, a recruitment service for adult models. Collectively, the webcam industry is estimated to be visited daily by some 5 percent of the web's global users – with one site (LiveJasmine) reaching over 2 percent alone, according to Alexa.com. "Five years ago, webcam was just about 5 percent of the job offers on our site," he said at a conference session during InterNext, an adult business convention in Las Vegas that precedes the Adult Entertainment Expo. "Today, we have about 2,500 job offers being made every day on our site – and over half of them are for webcam girls."

What prompted you to join the adult industry? I saw an ad in a Barely Legal magazine that prompted me to put up a page on sexyjobs.com. I always fantasized about being a Playboy model when I was young, oddly enough, so it just came naturally for me to join the industry and I adore my job.

You can submit an application to be an operator in the call center of a dispatch service, just like you would apply for any other job (though many of them request you leave a voicemail, we presume in a breathy tone or maybe an accent). There are subscription membership 'upgrades' for cash, which supposedly give people access to additional job information, but I couldn't get much info about what the benefits really are. They get over 20,000 hits a month, so somebody's looking at it!

One day, I was joking around and my hubby was talking to me about modeling stuff and he told me that I should get a “sexy job” because I was so sexy…lol. Ms. Generic explains that her website, which promotes PSO services, is completely unique because it caters to upscale gentlemen and relies on the "girls" to be classy and educated. I roll my eyes and ask what they pay. The caller shells out $2.35 per minute, she says, and the PSO gets 75 cents. The company keeps the rest.

Online listings have actually spawned more job opportunities because "there are more adult employment ads overall now," says Sean Phillips, vice president of marketing at InfoNet Publications, the Malibu, Calif.-based parent of SexyJobs.com, which pioneered the concept and now has more traction than any of its half dozen competitors.
